"Remember,there is no planet B"

Hello! This blog post will be about plastic pollution:
Plastic pollution is a big problem in our world. At least 8 million tonnes of plastic enter the oceans each year! Which is similar to dropping a skip full of plastic waste into the ocean every minute! :(
- 91% of plastic is not recycled!
Plastic pollution affects at least 700 different marine species, while some estimates suggest that at least 100 million marine mammals are killed each year from plastic pollution.
There is more microplastic in the ocean than there are stars in the Milky Way.
We thought that this was mind-blowing because there are about 400 billion stars in the milky way!
- Scientists say that if things continue as they are, by 2050 there will be more plastic in the sea than fish.
- One million plastic bottles are purchased every minute.
But it takes about 100 years or more for plastic to biodegrade!
- There are more than 5 trillion pieces of plastic currently floating in our oceans!
Lots of single-use plastic also goes into landfill:

How can you help fight plastic pollution?
There are many things you can do at home to help including:
- Use shampoo bars (I recommend the LUSH ones!) and soap bars. This way, you are not using plastic shampoo and soap bottles.
- Reuse or recycle all the single-use plastic you buy, e.g. You could use it to make art or take it to a recycling centre. *Better still, don't buy it in the first place!*
- Get a fabric shopping bag and a reusable plastic or metal water bottle.
- Try to avoid buying products with plastic packaging.
- Use reusable wooden or metal straws instead of plastic ones because there are currently around 8.3 billion plastic straws polluting our oceans and beaches. Or you could just not use a straw at all!
- Try to make homemade food e.g. make your own bread, ice cream, pizza... because it saves plastic and it's cheaper. Some people have started growing some of their own vegetables!
- Try to get milk in glass bottles instead if plastic ones.
- Next time you need a new toothbrush, get a wooden one instead of a plastic one because almost all plastic toothbrushes end up in the sea or landfill and never biodegrade!
-Go to your local refill shop with old plastic bottles, bags ect... there, you can refill your plastic with more shampoo, nuts, oats, washing liquid ect.... this reduces the amount of plastic being produced!
Here is the refill shop that I go to...... https://www.harmlessstore.co.uk/
These are only a few of the things you can do to help reduce plastic pollution!
It is good to reduce the amount of single use plastic you buy because then the amount of plastic needed to be produced will decrease. This is helping to bring less plastic into the world and it also saves energy!
If you have any other ideas of how to make a difference, please share it in the comments below!
We hope that you take this information on board and that you follow as many of our tips as you can!
We will post again soon,
